Great Website Tutorials – Learn HTML and many others…

13 12 2008

picture-32

I never thought I would be saying this, but I actually found myself excited about this website…….its very dour and plain exterior doesn’t reflect its eternal usefullness. Now I dont know much about anything web designery, and that means all of my websites are made in iWeb (which I simply love by the way). Now normally an iWeb website requires no coding knowledge, but to leverage all the funky extras that I have talked about over the past three months, some HTML is very helpful.

This website has tutorials for nearly every web technology. Its arranged in small sections so you can head straight for what floats your boat.

Fill your brain!

Opacity – Amazing Graphics Editor

13 12 2008

picture-24

Watching the video on the website of this application blew me away. For a couple of projects I needed to design an application icon, it wasn’t easy and the results weren’t particularly awe inspiring.

Opacity is so cool, it has built in effects and has many vector tools, best of all, however, is the built in ‘factories’ that allow you to export the graphic as icon presets and many other file types, even directly into your website via FTP.

I sincerely suggest watching the video on the homepage to guage the true value of Opacity.

It seems pretty simple to use and gives iWeb some pretty nifty functionality. Guess well have to wait to see if any of this will be included in the next iteration of iWeb but until then, check it out.

Wix – Embed widgets, gadgets, gizmos and thingameebobs on your site.

10 12 2008

17696v1

Apologies to all those who I have preached the usefullness of wix to but here I go again.

Wix has enabled me to do things with my website that I would never have thought possible without coding knowledge and expensive software. It really does allow a complete novice the ability to create content, whether its an mp3 player, a book with pages that can be turned or a bopping Obama doll (dont ask).

I cant praise it enough and, athough at times geared towards the younger user, can be really useful for adding those finishing touches to your websites.

FluidTunes – Control iTunes with gestures via iSight….pointless but Fun!

10 12 2008

picture-11

FluidTunes….perhaps the most pointless iTunes application but also perhaps one of the most interesting and fun.

Fluid tunes is a bit like the eyetoy games on Playstation in that it detects your movement through the isight on your mac and allows you to flick through iTunes coverflow and select song, its very basic, but certainly worth a look. This could be the start of something good.
